Hi there and welcome to our village: SANT ESTEVE. What’s that? You’ve probably never heard about it, but no worries, because we are here to explain it to you!
To begin with, Sant Esteve Sesrovires is a small town located by the Mediterranean coast of Spain, just half an hour by car away from the city of Barcelona. Situated in the county of El Baix Llobregat, its population is close to 8000 inhabitants spread across several neighbourhoods such as Vallserrat, La Beguda or Ca n’Amat. Besides, it is just a 30-minute drive to Montserrat, Barcelona, the beach and 2 hours to the Pyrenees.
Moving on, you should know that in Spain there have always been four languages: Spanish, Catalan, Galician and Basque; but in Sant Esteve we only speak the first two. Almost every person in our village will talk fluently Catalan and Spanish. The dialects of these languages aren’t that different in comparison to English, German or Italian. Despite being a bilingual town, there will always be Spaniards and Catalans that will refuse to speak the opposite language. Now, let’s concentrate in natural areas and villages near Sant Esteve. Near Sant Esteve, there are a lot of Natural Parks, like Montserrat. Montserrat is a mountain with a church inside situated at 15 km of Sant Esteve. Every day, at 12 o’clock, the boys of the church sing traditional songs. Another park is the Motor Park, this Park is nearer than Montserrat mountain and if you go to its, you can make a barbecue in the park because it has got tables and some grills. The village has got a train station that connects Sant Esteve with La Beguda and other towns. La Beguda is a small village that has got around five hundred inhabitants. Another important village situated near Sant Esteve is Castellví de Rosanes, some students of the high school come form there and it’s so small too.
Talking about life in Sant Esteve, we must say that it’s not that bad. Actually, it’s pretty good. Surprisingly enough, considering the size of our village, we have lots of things. Starting from the simplest shops like a bakery, a bazaar and a kiosk to big enterprises such as Chupa-Chups and SEAT. Apart from those, we also have two primary schools and one secondary school (ours), a train station to move to the boroughs, a golf course and a football pitch, two hotels, a not at all scary cemetery, a sports complex (curiously named Complex) and a famous bar called El Casino.
JUST AS A MATTER OF CURIOSITY! The church of Sant Esteve has got an unusual legend. To cut a long story short, it is about a woman that couldn't have children. Her husband prayed and said that if his wife had children he would build the tower of the church. After that, his wife had twins. As a result, he built two towers.
As we have already mentioned, within its limits we can find three important companies:
1. The popular lollipops, Chupa Chups, were created in our village in 1958. Before, the factory was situated in the centre of the village, but now it is in the industrial park because the boss decided to change all the machines and there was not room for everything.
2. Seat is an important car factory well-known all around the world. It’s very important because recently Audi has commissioned it to produce some of their cars. It was created in 1950.
3. Cavas Goulart: it is an important wine cellar in Sant Esteve.
3. Cavas Goulart: it is an important wine cellar in Sant Esteve.
WHY DO WE LIKE OUR TOWN?
1. I love my little village because it has got a lot of natural areas and people is very friendly. But, one disadvantage is that in Sant Esteve there aren’t discos or big shopping centres.
2. I love my town because it is very quiet, it has everything for such a small town and because communication between us is more closer. So, I mean: IT IS PERFECT!
3. We think that Sant Esteve stands out between other villages since we aren’t that much people but we still have everything we need and we are proud to live where we do.
